What is dog daycare and why bring your dog?
Daycare is a stimulating, crate-free environment supervised by trained staff. We provide safe and fun indoor and outdoor environments for dogs to positively channel their energy. They learn the appropriate skills:
*to handle situations that are stressful
or different
*proper play and communication to
build their confidence
*to deal with dogs of different sizes
and personalities
*to be happy, healthy, well-balanced
dogs!
Your dog will have a better sense of being a real dog and you will notice a positive difference at home when your dog regularly attends daycare.
Purposes of Dog Daycare
Burn Energy: You want your dogs to be tired and ready to go home and relax after a day of daycare.
Learn Dog Skills: Whether a dog is playing or not, he is observing and having to deal with the stress of the other dogs as well as dealing with other dogs when they approach. So even if he may not be interacting with the other dogs, he is still learning a small amount of dog skills and will eventually use these skills to interact.
Learn How to Play: You would be surprised at how many dogs don't know how to play appropriately. This is a skill they need to learn regardless of their ages.
Build Confidence: Confidence is a key ingredient in any behavior dogs exhibit. Confidence helps dogs in using the dog skills they know as well as their playing ability. Without confidence, a dog is sure to have behavior problems.
Learn Social Skills: Dogs are pack animals and need to know how to function in a pack. These social skills are important no matter if they are with humans or other dogs. The more they are socialized, the more confidence and the better the skills.
Learn How to be a Dog: This is the number one reason why dogs attend daycare!!
They must learn how to interact and communicate with other dogs so they are better able to handle stressful situations in the future.
Application & Screening
Our screening process takes a minimum of 2 hours and we require that you drop your dog off with us during this time. We will evaluate your dog with our "pack" using a standard process and you will receive completed evaluation forms at the end of the screening. We can also evaluate your dog for daycare while he is boarding with us.
What types of dogs should be in daycare?
All dogs should be in daycare except for dogs that are too aggressive or too fearful. Both of those types of dogs may need to have some outside training before being evaluated for daycare again. It is especially important that fearful dogs are not left out of daycare on a permanent basis and that training is done to allow
them to play.
Accidents
Dogs may get into "shoving matches" over personal space, toys, leadership, etc. The most common injuries we see are ear injuries and scratches. These injuries can occur during disagreements or play and are a normal side effect, especially if your dog doesn't have a thick coat of fur. Think of a child that plays on the playground with other kids. Our staff is trained to stop bad behavior before it occurs but there are times when staff members are unable to predict a problem. You need to be aware of these risks and decide if they are acceptable for you and your dogs. The benefits of daycare far outweigh the risks, and incidents are minimal.

Meet Nikki - DogSpeak
www.dogspeak101.com
Professional Dog Trainer/Behavior Consultant, Nikki Ivey, has been working with dogs and their owners since 1996. She has spread her wealth of knowledge not only to the general public but to the professional world as well. She loves to educate individually or in the masses, wanting all owners and professionals to have a better understanding of dogs and promoting the healthiest relationships.
Nikki has spent her years getting to truly understand the nature of a dog and and their motivations. By letting go of the "dominant pack theory" method it has allowed her to be more in tune with dogs and more effective using DogSpeak™. She uses positive methods with negative punishment such as a time-out. She doesn't use any form of physical corrections, correction collars or shock devices. This allows dogs to show their true personalities and always leaves them happy with an owner who doesn't have to feel like a leader in a boot camp.
Nikki believes in clearly communicating to dogs, setting their expectations and giving them a confident leader. She teaches foundation skills such as self-control and problem-solving. Once a solid foundation is in place you can begin to build the walls of real life manners that go beyond the traditional training of sit, stay, down, come and heel. With real life manners your dog will know how to respond in situations without having to be commanded by you, however, when you do need to command your dog, he responds quickly and enthusiastically.
Nikki's training style makes training your dog easy. You'll learn good habits and achieve great success without feeling guilty for not walking your dog miles everyday. Physical stimluation is important but more important is mental stimulation and Nikki can teach you how to mentally stimulate your dog. Don't be fooled by the myth that walking your dog miles everyday fixes everything.
Nikki also owned and operated the first Dog Daycare in Tennessee, 'Dog DaySpa & Cafe', and has spent the last five years helping others build their successful daycares whether from the ground up or as an additive to an existing business. She trains staff members on dog behavior and interaction and certifies each of her facilities.
In 2001, Nikki founded Tennessee Emergency Rescue and Recovery Association which uses K9s to locate missing persons and deceased individuals in water or on land.
In her spare time, Nikki enjoys writing a good murder mystery incorporating her knowledge of search and rescue. Check out Nikki's first novel, "Callout", found online at any large bookstore.
Be Safe, Be Responsible:
Understanding Dog-Dog & Dog-Human Communication
*Why is it so darn hard to take a picture of my dog's face?
*Isn't that cute? Spot is jealous of us hugging!
*Bad dog, Rex! No growling!
*Is my dog calming or warning??
*What on earth IS a calming signal anyway??
*OMG my dog's hackles are up - what do I do???!!!
*There's a Pit Bull in that group of dogs! Is that safe??
...and more...
Dogs use "calming signals" to communicate with people and other dogs. Learning them will open a new door in understanding your best friend.
Join us for this amazing humans-only workshop full of valuable information and tons of video.

*Everytime we go to the dog park my dog fights! Or is she playing?
*What is healthy play anyway?
*Why does that dog keep mounting my dog?
*OH NO! That dog's hackles are up! What do I do?
*My little dog doesn't like big dogs!
*Those dogs won't stop chasing my dog!
*Why doesn't my dog get along with other dogs on her leash?
*Why is my dog always on the bottom of the pile?
*The Pug and Great Dane CAN co-exist!
Help your dog become a better dog! If you want your dog to be the best dog he or she can possibly be, then you need to learn about how dogs communicate and INTERACT. It's not as scary or mysterious as you think!
